Happiness-19 is Science-based2021-09-10T15:18:24+00:00

On Science

To lead a better life, we need to learn the right skills, practice them regularly, and apply them to our daily life! The focus of Happiness-19 is on skills that help us recover ourselves after difficult moments and stressful events.

Because happiness doesn’t mean we should avoid negative feelings and only let the positive emotions in! To build a happy and healthy life, we need a balance between both our positive and negative feelings!

What does recovering ourselves mean?

Sure, negative emotions are as necessary as positive ones- but we need to learn how not to get stuck in negative feelings and situations! That’s what “recovering our happiness” is about.

Self-Happiness… what is it?

There’s a set of skills that help us recover ourselves after difficult moments. We call these self-happiness skills!

Learning all of these skills is time-consuming and challenging, but in the end, very rewarding!
It’s like learning how to play the piano- you need to learn the notes and the rules, and practice a lot on a daily basis. It’s only after doing all this that you become good at it, and can play your own song with it!

That’s why we have combined science, education, and storytelling in one creative project to make a personalized experience. We have carefully designed fun, practical, and evidence-based experiences that match your needs in a practical way.

We’re all unique

Imagine there’s a cabinet inside your mind, full of different mason jars! Each jar is filled with something you hold dear; such as sleep, mindfulness, people, change, and curiosity.
So these jars hold the ingredients of baking your happy life!
Each brain knows its unique recipes but it’s our responsibility to keep them filled. These jars will only be filled when you practice your self-happiness skills!

How do we know if your mason jars are empty, half empty, or full?

We’re all different in many ways, and our mason jars are also unique. That’s why we’ve made sure to include a test that measures each person’s unique jars! The results of this test will guide you through the journey.

Why These Five Jars?

In our brains, there is a lot of electrical activities going on. Scientists have studied these activities a lot to find out about how our brains function.
There are 5 brain waves that carry out this electrical activity. These brain-waves look like this:
They can be detected by a test called EEG (Electroencephalogram).
These brain waves range from low frequency to high frequency (from Delta to Gamma), and each has its own unique functions. Together, these functions help us carry out our day-to-day lives.

we know that each brain wave plays an important role in our functioning. At the same time, if they are unbalanced (if there’s too little or too much of them), they may cause problems.
For example, it seems that when we are under a lot of pressure, one of the high-frequency brain waves, (i.e., beta waves), becomes more active than those who are in a similar situation, but feel less stressed. At the same time, beta waves, in the right amount, help us think and solve problems.

It seems like the unbalance between these brainwaves is correlated with our distress and our coping with difficult situations. That’s why, by practicing the right skills for improving our coping strategies, we want to help you recover the balance between these brain waves.

To do this

, we have designed experiences that help us balance each brain wave. That’s why you can see there are 5 separate sets of skills that we have grouped together to match with each brain wave:

How can we fill our jars?

To fill each jar, we need a set of tools and skills:

How does Happiness-19 help?

Not having the appropriate skills often leads to many difficulties, such as not being able to cope with adverse life events! This can leave us feeling distressed and under pressure most of the time.
For example, not having learned emotion regulation skills (i.e. not being able to manage our emotions) has been shown to be one of the key challenges in mood and anxiety disorders, and in unregulated anger.

The Good News Is…

Just like any other skill, these are also learnable and can be practiced! That’s exactly what this program offers.

We’ve used some of the skills that have been shown to improve coping strategies and overall well-being, offered by Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as well as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy- All in a simple, yet effective way.

Happiness-19 From a More Creative Perspective

This digital supplement improves the mental immune system for becoming more resourceful in the face of trauma and stressful situations.
Happiness-19 is preventive, not a medicine. It can’t be used instead of therapy.
These skills help you build up strength and coping abilities. This way, when you face difficult situations, you’re better prepared, and perhaps more confident in dealing with them!

Our team

We’re a pretty small team so far, but we all share one goal, and that is to bring happiness and a better quality of life to as many people as we can!
